"I didn't even like her much, and yet all of a sudden I felt like i was in love with her and wanted to mairy her. I swear to God i'm crazy. I admit it."
For the last week or so my body has just been running on autopilot leaving my mind in a parallel dimension pondering the meaning of existence, myself, and a few other things to this effect. In the end my mind cracked under the pressure and now my mind has simply stopped, leaving my body on autopilot. The only thing I learned in exchange for my efforts to understand was the fact that I know nothing.
Holden’s random thought process in this book is very similar to how my mind was working during this period of time, except that he is pondering much less interesting things in my opinion. Holden clams he is insane, something I believe only sane people do, as far as I am concerned this proves his sanity. I mean think about it, no one who believes they are George Washington admits they are insane, that is what makes them insane.
I am starting to believe that Holden has made the same foolish mistake that I did and is trying to understand the world around him. After my painful atempts I now understand that understanding is not only impractical and unnecessary, but is a psychologically impossibility for anything of any real interest. I hope Holden realizes this, and just movies on with his life without looking too closely at the inconsistencies around him.
Don’t overanalyze life, just enjoy it. It’s all you have.

Evil
Hear no evil unless you can't help it. See no evil unless you don't know it. Speak no evil unless. . . you want to.
Ever since humans have become less God feering, and no big brother has been watching us, we have become more and more acustomed to evil in our lives. Drinking, gambling, and even eating on the wrong days were all once concidered mortal sins along with almost anything else you can think of. Even thinking the wrong thoughts could send you to hell. Now days we have started to bend the rules and we think "God will understand" anything we want to do! If the old testement is right i will see every soul living today in hell. . . The reason people in the past didn't do some of those "evil" things we do today was just because they thought that if they didn't do those things then they could go to heaven. In Holdens eyes that would just make them phony even if they became better people because of it. Even people today that do good things he would call phony becaues he thinks they don't really care. Although this may be true should they not do those good things? Would he preffer we all just be ourselves and steal, rape, and kill as we please? At least we wouldn't be phony. . . right?

Tale of a dead man
He stood paralyzed with confusion as the man who had just turned the corner in front of him lifted a gun from his side and fired a pullet point blank into his head.
He began to remember. It was as if he was reliving his life as it slowly drifted in front of his eyes. He saw his childhood, adolescence, and adulthood pass him by. It seemed to take years.
He then saw the man turn the corner and fire. He began to remember. . .
The idea (if you didn't already see it) is that when your life flashes before your eyes before you die what would stop it from doing it again after you reach the end? It would cause an infinite loop resulting in the absence of an afterlife.

Back to the book
More so on topic i would like to point out that although Holden has been feeling lonely in the recent chapters i don't think he actually wanted to talk to the prostitute. He asked for her by mistake (it seemed) and the only reason i think he wanted to talk to her was just to avoid doing anything else with her if you see what i mean. I think he really just wanted her to leave but didn't just want to come out and say that.
I Robot
Sorry to post so many random blogs, but i really want to rant about the atrocity that has been comited to this book! If you saw the movie before reading the book you probably thought what i did and considered it exceptionaly average. However once you read the book you will see how horrible it is! The book is about the complex inner workings of the machines over time and explains how they controle humanity without humans even knowing it. While the movie is just the usual hostile robot take over!!! Never in my life has anything made me this angery!!!!

Your welcome
I don't know if you'll read this Mrs. Jorgenson but i seriously hope that you apreciate that i have been blogging for four and a half hours straight.
GAARRR
Everytime i go onto my blog it disconects me from the internet, and i need to reconnect! GAAAAARRRRR
Influence
I have been just sitting here reading and posting for about two hours and I just noticed how all of my posts have been somewhat based on what song i was listening to at the time. .
This reminded me of a philosophical theory i had a while ago. It was that your personality is never exactly the same. It is constanly being changed by your own thoughts, and then just as much by outside influences. For instance i always thought that those stupid dramas with the people living on islands or whatever were really idiotic because the people didn't act like normal people. You know, how they always start having affairs or getting into rediculous fudes. However recently i realized that they might not necessarily be scripted. The people might just start acting that way because they know they are being video taped and so they start acting wierd like the people on the dramas they have seen. This could explain why Holden lies so much and tries to be grown up.

problems
How can you give advice to slove someone elses problem if they have the same problem as you and you don't have a solution! This idea came into my mind when i was working on that diagnosis for Holden and i realized i couldn't help myself so i really couldn't help him either. In the end i gave him the only advice i could think of. I said if he can't solve his problems himself than he should just kill himself and get it over with. I decided it was his choice wiether he wanted to live in hell for the rest of his life, then actually go to hell, or just skip the middle man and get it over with. It isn't very good advice, but neither is "what your going through is perfectly normal". I mean, that isn't even advice!
Holden is confused
After reading the title of this blog you really don't need to read the rest, but i apreciate it if you do. It is easy to see how confused Holden is and how he doesn't know how to deal with any of his problems. This is why he does random things like going to those night clubs, or just talking with a prostitute. The odd thing about this is that i often feel like doing random things like this also but i usually realize that they would have no point and wouldn't solve my problems at all. For instance one time i was going insane trying to solve a math problem so i randomly ran out side and sprinted around my dead end without shoes on in under a minute. It didn't solve the problem at all but i just needed something to get my mind off of it.
Adulthood, and Childhood.
First of all I just want to complain about how this blogging thing doesn’t have a spell checker on it so I needed to type this whole thing in a word document! Also I needed to keep up every page on the blog so I can see the six intertwined questions to make sure I answerer them all so my computer is running three words behind me at all times!
Anyway back to the point. It is obvious Holden is in-between being a child and being an adult by almost everything he does. He tries doing things that adults would do, like dancing with those girls in that club, but then he does them very childishly, like when he told them he saw a movie star. Holden seems to be either right in the middle of becoming an adult or closer to being an adult than a child, like I feel most people in our class are. He is going through similar problems in his life that many of us are now. For instance he isn’t really sure what is important in his life. Some people think it is important to get good grades but he has decided that that isn’t an important part of his life. He is also obviously having difficulty understanding the opposite gender which happens to everyone in most stages of their lives, but more so in adolescence. For instance he seems to like Jane and was upset when he thought Stradlater had “given her the time”, but he hasn’t admitted to being in love with her.

So yeah. I think this book shows some extremes of being judgmental, empathetic, and sympathetic. Ackley seems very judgmental calling Stradlater “conceited all the time, and hating everyone for some reason or another. Stradlater comes off as a sympathetic character because he seems to have a very superior attitude, but he is still willing to give a friend his tie if he liked it. If I needed to guess this is because he almost feels sorry for the people that aren’t as perfect as he is. Then the main character Holden (or whatever his name is) seems to be very empathetic. Even though he hasn’t been in the same situations as many of the other characters he seems to understand their feeling in their positions just by thinking about how he would feel. For instance he wrote that letter to his teacher so he wouldn’t feel bad about flunking him because he realized it could have been painful for the teacher to flunk him otherwise. Also how he invited Ackley to go see a movie could be empathy or sympathy, but because Holden seems to consider himself an outcast from the world he may feel he understands Ackley and wants to help him, however it still seems to be more sympathy. Because of how Holden is harder to label than the other charactersit shows how realistic he is.
